dragon from Dino

after that last entry today I started wondering what a dragon based on one of the dinos would look like. After a few minutes with photoshop this is what I came up with. It's pretty messy but fun anyway.

Nice dragon!

I kinda like the "rule" ILM came up with when they made the movie Dragonslayer: since it's a real creature on this planet, you only get four limbs. Arms become wings, but folded wings allow the creature to crawl, if clumsily.

Had a vague sense of fictional verisimilitude about it. But a soundtrack that was so bad it hurt the movie (and wasn't a classic to begin with!). But nice dragon!

thanks Illustrationist, you have a point about the wings. They really would be the arms but every time I draw them that way for kids they ask 'where's the arms?' But then, angels have wings and arms, but they're not dragons, so there goes that theory. Oh well, as long as it's fun, right?

This is pretty cool Werner.

I've always wondered what kinds of exotic colours a creature like this would have have in reality...

Dinos too, along with the theory that some have feathers... like Raptors.

Thumbs up.

Thanks Matt. I never thought of the feather stuff until I heard James Gurney talk at school and really looked at his beautiful paintings. We have a Quaker parrot with rich green and blue colours, and after hearing a tour guide talking once again about birds being modern dinosaurs (our quaker is just seed of the devil, not dino) I used his colours on this drawing. We'll take the class back next semester and maybe play with prisma sticks over the skeletons, or back at school with photoshop.

I'd heard the theory... but completely dismissed it until Gurney's talk at Seneca and seeing IS believing sometimes. Since then... Gurney's been a personal hero. The idea of experimenting with those theories gets me REALLY excited. There are just so many possibilities.
